RECOGNITION

Rubèn Molina, born in Barinitas, but raised in Tovar, where he

developed his artistic skills. Attracted by the idea of living in the big city, he moved to Caracas where he would stay for fifteen years. As it turned out, Caracas did not meet his artictic expectations.

Beginning of 2004, he returned to Tovar to start over again. Currently the Benjamin of the ”Grupo de Tovar“ is painting like never before.

Rubèn manages different styles. One of his styles is figurative art. He starts by making a realistic painting. By applying streaks of paint and by scratching and scraping away paint, he creates a dramatic effect. Thus adding an emotional dimension to the painting.

Another of his styles is realistic painting, using scenes taken out of every day life. His most recent work with film scene like black and white representations is entertaining. The simplicity of black and white,

combined with scenes of days gone by, create a sense of recognition.

Rubèn says:

”To me, painting is like playing with reality. What starts as an ordinary portrait ends up, after adding lines and scraping away paint, as a

dramatic experiment. Recently, I started painting in a more realistic way both in colour and in black and white. As with old pictures, the absence of colour adds something.“
