PAINTING AS AN ADVENTURE

The translation of the word guerrero is warrior. Jesús, prominent member of the ”Grupo de Tovar“, has the spirit of a warrior. To Jesús, painting is an

adventure that involves the usual conflicts. He is always on the edge and

sometimes even crossing it, driven by inspiration. Jesús is like a general

certain of his victory and marching well ahead of the rest.

The adventurous aspect of painting is in the search for the original. The

adventure also lies in filtering and abstracting contemporary reality in order to depict it with inspirited and instinctive streaks. In this way of painting,

inspiration is paramount, but cannot be forced at will…

His work is highly abstract. The best way to approach his work is to go by instinct. This enables one to see his powerful expression and makes us

understand the conflict.

Jesús says:

”Bridging the gap between the eye and the object. To unravel and to animate. To enclose and fill out the space. To me, these three reasons are the very

essence of the art of painting. Painting is similar to placing a bet. It is never

certain whether one will realise his original goal and not to realise, not to win, hurts.

I paint without preliminary sketching. I just position myself in front of the canvas and start applying dabs of paint until I get to the point where it all turns into a game between the painter and his material. Shortly after commencing the game, I sense the fulfilment of the action. What strikes me the most is the graphic construction of the work.“
